How Long Does Filter Coffee Decoction Last in the Fridge?
The Kaapiswada family · 2026-10-22
Filter coffee decoction tastes best the same day it drips. If you keep it, let it cool, cover it and store it in the fridge, and use it within a day or two. Check the smell and taste before you use it: if it smells sour or off, throw it away.
Many homes make decoction in the morning and use it through the day, and some make a big batch for guests. So how long does filter coffee decoction last, and how do you keep it tasting good? Here is what we do at home. If you want a ready blend for this, see our Swadamalnad filter coffee.
How long does filter coffee decoction last?
- At room temperature: keep it for the morning rush and finish it the same day. Cover it so it does not pick up smells.
- In the fridge: cool it first, then keep it in a clean, airtight container. Plan to use it within a day or two.
- Over that time: the aroma fades and the taste turns flat, even if it is still safe to drink.
This is general kitchen sense rather than a hard rule. Your own nose and taste are the best test.
We grow our coffee on our family estate in the Mullayanagiri foothills of Chikmagalur, and at home we make a fresh decoction every morning, because the first drip is the best.
How to store filter coffee decoction
- Let the decoction cool a little after it drips.
- Pour it into a clean steel or glass container with a tight lid.
- Put it in the fridge once it is cool.
- Warm only the amount you need. Do not reheat the whole container again and again.
Reheat gently. Boiling it hard can make it taste bitter.
How to make a decoction last better
The decoction can only be as good as the powder that went in. Stale powder gives a flat decoction from the start. Keep your powder airtight and away from heat, as in our guide on how to store filter coffee powder. A fresh pack of filter powder (like Kaapiswada Swadamalnad: our 80:20 blend made with single-estate Arabica from our own family estate in Chikmagalur) gives a fuller decoction that holds up better through the day.
If your decoction comes out thin, see how to fix a weak filter coffee decoction. You can see our range on the products page.
If you want to try it, see our Swadamalnad filter coffee, or look at all our coffees.
Starting from Pureswada 100% Arabica gives a cleaner decoction that you can taste in the first sip.
