100% Arabica Coffee Beans: What the Label Means
The Kaapiswada family · 2026-10-23
100% Arabica coffee beans means every bean in the pack is Arabica, with no Robusta mixed in and no chicory or other filler added. It tells you the type of bean. It does not by itself tell you where the coffee was grown, how fresh it is or how it was roasted, so read the rest of the label too.
We grow 100% Arabica on our own family estate in the Mullayanagiri foothills of Chikmagalur. Here is how to read a pack of 100% Arabica coffee beans before you buy it.
What 100% Arabica coffee beans means
Arabica and Robusta are the two main kinds of coffee grown in India. Arabica is usually grown at higher altitude and shade, and is known for a smoother, more aromatic cup. Robusta is hardier, stronger in body and more bitter.
When a pack says "100% Arabica", the coffee is Arabica only. If it says just "Arabica" or "Arabica blend", ask how much. For a closer comparison, see our guide to Arabica vs Robusta for filter kaapi.
Whole beans or ground? Look at the form as well. "100% Arabica coffee" on a ground pack and "100% Arabica coffee beans" are the same bean, but whole beans keep their aroma longer. If you want to grind fresh, see our Roastswada whole Arabica beans (like Kaapiswada Roastswada: 100% Arabica whole beans from our own Chikmagalur estate).
What else to look for on the pack
- Origin. Where was it grown: a named region, an estate, or just "India"? Single-estate means all the coffee comes from one farm, which makes it easier to trace.
- Roast level. Light, medium or dark. Medium suits most brewing methods, including a South Indian steel filter. Our guide to medium or dark roast for filter coffee helps you choose. For what roasting does, see roasted coffee beans.
- Roast date. A recent roast date matters more than a long shelf life.
- Ingredients. For beans or pure coffee, the only ingredient should be coffee. Chicory in a pack should be stated with its ratio.
- Pack weight. Compare per 250 g or per kilo, not per pack.
Is 100% Arabica always better?
Not always. It depends on how you drink your coffee. If you like a lighter, clearer cup with less milk, 100% Arabica is a good choice.
If you like the thick, dark, bittersweet decoction of classic filter kaapi with plenty of milk, many homes prefer a blend with a little chicory. Both are legitimate; they are simply different cups. Our comparison of 80:20 filter coffee vs 100% Arabica walks through who should pick which.
We make both. Our Pureswada is 100% Arabica ground for filter coffee with no chicory, and our Swadamalnad is an 80:20 blend (like Kaapiswada Swadamalnad: 80% Arabica and 20% chicory, made with single-estate Arabica from our own family estate). The classic 80:20 coffee-chicory ratio is explained in its own guide.
How to check a pack of 100% Arabica coffee beans at home
- Smell the beans after opening: they should be fragrant, not dusty or flat.
- Check that the beans are fairly even in size and colour, without many broken pieces or dark burnt ones.
- Brew one cup the way you normally do. The test is whether you like it.
If you want to try it, see our Roastswada whole Arabica beans, or compare every coffee on the products page.

Questions people ask
What does 100% Arabica mean on coffee beans? It means all the beans in the pack are Arabica, with no Robusta and no other ingredient mixed in.
Is 100% Arabica coffee the same as single-estate coffee? No. 100% Arabica describes the bean type. Single-estate describes where it was grown: one farm. A pack can be one, both or neither, so check both on the label.
Can I use 100% Arabica beans for South Indian filter coffee? Yes. Grind them fine and brew in a steel filter, then add hot milk. The cup is lighter in body than a chicory blend, so many people add a little more powder. Our filter coffee guide has the steps.
How can I tell Arabica from Robusta beans? Arabica beans are usually slightly longer and flatter with a curved centre line; Robusta beans are rounder and smaller. The surest way is a clear label from a seller who can name the origin.
Do you sell 100% Arabica beans online? Yes, across India. We sell Roastswada as whole beans and Pureswada as ready ground filter coffee, both 100% Arabica from our own estate.
