Coffee guide / French press & pour-over
French press and pour-over coffee
Both start with whole beans you grind yourself. French press is full and rich; pour-over is clean and light.
In the cup: Roastswada is 100% Arabica, medium roast, with jasmine, stone fruit and cocoa nib notes.
How to make it
French press (About 6 minutes)
- Grind coarse. Grind 30 g of Roastswada coarse, like breadcrumbs.
- Add water. Add 500 ml of water just off the boil and stir once.
- Steep. Put the lid on and wait 4 minutes.
- Press and serve. Press the plunger down slowly, and pour right away. Coffee left on the grounds turns bitter.

What you need
- French press (you will need this): Steep coffee in a jug and press the grounds down. Full-bodied and simple.
- Pour-over cone and filter papers (you will need this): A cone that sits on your cup: you pour water slowly over the coffee. A clean cup.
- Gooseneck kettle (nice to have): A thin spout gives a slow, steady pour, which pour-over needs.
- Hand coffee grinder (you will need this): Grind beans fresh for each brew and pick the grind for the method.
- Kitchen scale (0.1 g) (nice to have): Weigh coffee and water, so the cup tastes the same every day.
We are planning to stock this equipment; it is not on sale yet.
Which Kaapiswada coffee to buy
Roastswada (100% Arabica · Whole beans, 250 g): Both methods need a grind you choose. Whole beans let you do that, and keep their aroma longer than powder.
Our filter powders are ground fine for a steel filter. In a French press they would leave sludge in the cup.
Tips
- Grind just before brewing.
- Clean the press or cone after every use: old coffee oils taste stale.
